Corporate Counsel

The Corporate Counsel will report to the Senior Corporate Counsel of HITT Contracting.  The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial real estate, construction or a related practice, including contract drafting and negotiations, claim advice, strategies for contract administration and dispute resolution, plus strong interpersonal skills and superior writing and presentation skills.  The Corporate Counsel will be an integral part of HITT’s Legal and Risk Management Department.   


  • Draft, structure, negotiate, review and advise on commercial construction contracts and subcontracts.
  • Work with the Senior Corporate Counsel and the General Counsel to provide corporate leadership with legal guidance on a wide variety of matters related to the commercial real estate industry, including: contract interpretation, contract disputes, subcontractor and supplier issues, litigation, bankruptcy, insurance coverage and claims, bond claims, liens and employment.
  • Retain and manage outside legal counsel, and provide litigation support
  • Assist with the tracking and reporting of departmental activities and key performance indicators
  • Draft corporate policies, procedures and other resources
  • Assist with and/or lead departmental or company wide initiatives and process improvements
  • Provide training to the company on a variety of legal topics
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Juris Doctorate degree from a top accredited law school.
  • Admitted to practice law in Virginia
  • Approximately 2-4 years of law firm experience with an expertise in commercial real estate and construction law, focusing on litigation, contracts and insurance claims. 
  • Excellent ability to grasp legal and business issues quickly, to balance risks, to exercise sound judgment and to provide practical and constructive legal advice in a time-sensitive, dynamic and fast paced business environment.
  • Ability to lead discussions with clients, attorneys, management, employees, and other third parties with regard to a wide variety of legal issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including strong interpersonal and negotiating skills.
