Internal Communications Manager

Reporting to the Director of Integrated Marketing Communications, this mid-level candidate is responsible for creating, managing and executing integrated internal communications initiatives and activities. The internal communications manager will leverage internal channels to strengthen the organization's ability to connect with team members and create a positive culture that supports performance and productivity. Additionally, this role will play a critical part in the content development and maintenance of the corporate intranet site to ensure the tool increases employee awareness and engagement. Responsible for most internal communications to a team of 1,300 employees in 13 offices, the manager will support these internal clients in the areas of change management, policy announcements and amendments, employer brand development, diversity, equity and inclusion, safety, news, and all other communications.

The internal communications manager will collaborate closely with internal teams including HR, external communications, employee engagement, graphics, research and development, the office of the principal leadership team (CEO and Co-Presidents), and corporate responsibility to create engaging, timely, relevant, and strategic communications that directly support communications and overall business goals.

All work for this position requires strong writing skills, sound professional judgement and discretion, outstanding relationship management, and the ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously. The ideal candidate is creative and collaborative and will be a solutions-oriented self-starter with the desire to grow.


  • Work collaboratively with the Marketing Communications Director to develop communications campaigns; ensure alignment and consistency of messaging throughout the organization; develop copy and creative direction
  • Monitor, analyze, and optimize work based on metrics and analytics of internal channels
  • Work with Marketing Communications Director to implement internal communications strategy
  • Work with Events and Engagement Manager to support a team member engagement plan that fosters commitment and connection to the organization
  • Collaborate with branding and graphics team members to develop targeted email blasts and direct mail communications for corporate announcements, special events, promotions etc.
  • QC all outgoing communications including intranet content, email blasts, and newsletters before distribution
  • Measure and monitor the quality, effectiveness, and ROI of communications strategies and tactics; provide recommendations for improvement
  • Oversee and manage the corporate intranet ecosystem (Microsoft Sharepoint-intranet, called Blueprint) including development of creative content, routine content and functionality maintenance
  • Launch new channels, like in-house live broadcast, and modify existing channels to make sure the right content is being disseminated on the right channels
  • Provide internal crisis communication support and coordination
  • Work closely with the in-house design team and/or marketing agencies to develop branding and graphics
  • Work closely with the social media and public relations leads to unify internal messaging with external efforts
  • Limited domestic travel may be required


Minimum Qualifications and Requirements (combination of education and experience as outlined below):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Marketing, Communications, English, or related fields.
  • 5-7 years’ experience in a communications or marketing role with direct internal communications experience preferred.
  • Experience in a fast-paced B2B or professional services national or global corporation; architecture/engineering/construction (AEC) experience preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required.
  • Exceptional oral, editing, creative writing, and professional written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required, proficiency in Adobe CC a plus
  • Working knowledge of SharePoint, Emma, and other email campaign platforms (HITT currently uses Poppulo)
  • Ability to manage senior-level stakeholders and align event content / expectations accordingly
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects with changing priorities
  • Strengths in creating annual plans (including for specific verticals like safety), implementing process, creating efficiencies, integrating plans with other communications professionals, and managing all tasks through successful completion
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex projects across a variety of functions
