Intern, Sustainability

 HITT Contracting Inc., a Washington Post Top Work Place, seeks a part time intern for a 6-12 month assignment to join our Sustainable Construction & Corporate Responsibility team in the Falls Church, Va. headquarters office. The optimal candidate can commit 10-20 hours per week, with a set weekly schedule to be negotiated based on the need to accommodate a full-time student workload. This entry level intern will be exposed to multiple functions within the sustainable construction & corporate responsibility team including LEED project management, sustainable materials data capture, corporate sustainability initiatives, and community involvement. The position reports to the manager of sustainable construction and corporate responsibility and will be mentored / managed on a day-to-day basis by multiple members of the team including the Vice President of Sustainability & Innovation.

The ideal candidate is energetic with a willingness to take on projects that range from data entry to challenging special projects. Key to this position is a great attitude, strong interpersonal skills, excellent attention to detail, being a self-starter, and having a passion for implementing sustainability initiatives in the built environment. Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining and updating HITT’s internal database of LEED v4 materials.
  • Review material submittals for LEED v4 compliance.
  • Manage HITT’s annual waste audit. Create a summary of the waste audit and create trainings to target better recycling rates.
  • Participate in LEED kick-off meetings and provide detailed meeting minutes for distribution.
  • Assist in template creation for tracking GHG emissions
  • Assist in corporate responsibility goals by tracking participation, updating events calendar, and creating power point presentations.
  • Help curate information for HITT’s corporate responsibility annual reporting
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Currently seeking a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in environmental science, sustainability management, business, or associated field.
  • At least two years of undergraduate coursework completed
  • Interest and/or experience with green building rating systems, community giving, and employee engagement
  • Excellent capabilities with Microsoft Office Suite – especially Excel and PowerPoint
