Job Description


The Controller of HITT Contracting Inc. will lead a team of Associates, Sr. Associates and Accounting Managers who are responsible the Corporate Accounting functions of the company.  This includes, but is not limited to, Financial Reporting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Tax and Compliance, and Financial Planning & Analysis.  This individual will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and will work closely with the Director of Project Accounting.


  • Develop and maintain a high performing accounting organization through training and mentorship of team members
  • Manage a forward-thinking view of departmental workload and capacity to drive optimum staff utilization and make staffing recommendations accordingly
  • Provide timely and effective communications to the Corporate Accounting team so they possess the necessary information to perform successfully
  • Regularly review career path goals with team, providing feedback on progression
  • Transform and institutionalize HITT’s Corporate Accounting activities to a best practices methodology, ensuring that HITT’s accounting functions effectively balance accuracy and efficiency
  • Develop and maintain a system of policies and procedures that impose an adequate level of control over all accounting activities
  • Create strategies and policies to support and execute all Corporate Accounting activities and coordinate supporting information systems, including policies, procedures and initiatives with operating and support stakeholders
  • Ensure that HITT’s accounting practices are fully compliant with GAAP, US Government FAR / CAS rules and regulations
  • Continually assess & improve systems and automate accounting processes wherever possible
  • Knowledge of internal controls and ability to recommend changes and additions to policies / processes as needed
  • Communicate and enforce accounting policies and procedures
  • Interface with HITT’s external audit partners to ensure internal controls are sound and process improvements are constantly being evaluated to ensure an environment of strong internal control and regulatory compliance
  • Serve as cross functional lead for enterprise wide accounting initiatives leading to improved efficiency metrics
  • Develop and manage HITT’s annual budget and rolling financial forecast through interactions with corporate functional leads and business unit leaders in alignment with the company’s strategic objectives
  • Compile, analyze, and report monthly data at the business unit level
  • Prepare and report on regular reconciliations of the balance sheet and all related sub-ledgers (i.e. fixed assets, accounts receivable, etc.)
  • Responsible for the accurate reporting of financial results in accordance with GAAP and internal controls including revenue, profit and cash flow
  • Ad hoc reporting
  • Maintain general ledger chart of accounts
  • Maintain company, department, and market sector structure within accounting system
  • Journal Entry approval & posting
  • Continually assess ERP system capabilities along with other ancillary tools, and recommend changes as needed


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of progressive finance and accounting experience
  • CPA license preferred
  • Experience with JD Edwards or other comparable ERP solution including analytical tools (BI)
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls and financial reporting
  • Superior time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision
  • Possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including ability to articulate recommendations in a concise and timely manner
  • Understanding, yet persuasive and decisive when dealing with others in the organization
  • Task and goal oriented and capable of functioning in an entrepreneurial and corporate setting
  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining high performing accounting teams
  • Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to lead and mentor team members.
  • Ability to influence change, efficiency and morale among team members.
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with others
