Job Description

Title: Controller, New York


The Role:   The Controller of Americon HITT will lead a team of Associates, Sr. Associates and Project Accounting Manager who are all responsible for business unit financials.  This individual will report directly to the Director of Project Accounting at HITT Headquarters and is responsible for reporting revenue and profit, forecasting, cash flow and risk management, as well as the overall health of the project accounting teams.


Key Job Elements:



  • Conduct regular check ins and yearly performance evaluations for all direct reports
  • Assess training and learning needs for direct reports
  • Train and support Accounting Associate & Senior Associate Staff as needed
  • Review career path goals with staff, providing feedback on progression
  • Manage a forward-thinking view of departmental workload and capacity to drive optimum staff utilization and make staffing recommendations accordingly


  • Continually assess and improve systems and manual processes related to project accounting
  • Knowledge of internal controls (and their purpose) and ability to recommend changes and additions to policies / processes as needed
  • Communicate, model and enforce Project Accounting and Company Policies and Procedures
  • Assist with special projects


  • Prepare Business Unit Financials
  • Manage Quarterly Business Unit Forecast
  • Compile, analyze, and report data at the business unit level
  • Responsible for the accurate reporting of financial results in accordance with GAAP and controls for assigned Business Unit including revenue, profit and cash flow
  • Prepare, distribute and maintain project-related financial reports
  • Ad hoc reporting


  • Leads all financial management of the Business Unit(s)
  • Maintains Project accounting financial budget for Team Business Unit managed
  • Communicates any potential risk to the Director and above
  • Business Unit Leader advisor (main POC)
  • Maintain project hierarchies for all Project teams
  • Interface with legal counsel and insurance personnel on all claim and litigation matters


  • Maintain Project hierarchies
  • Coordinate Master Subcontract Agreements (MSA) with new Subcontractors or those completing work in excess of $50k for the first time
  • Obtain and review D&B reports as requested
  • Serve as lead POC for internal audit; Compile information for internal and external auditors, as required
  • Business Unit-specific audits (Insurance, Worker’s Comp)


  • Journal Entry approval & posting
  • AR write-offs
  • Process Voids – Owner invoice, Cash Receipt
  • Approve/Reject Supplier NSPR’s through Docusphere
  • Process Owner Invoice & Cash Receipt Voids
  • Process Labor Correction Forms
  • Assist BULs with development and updating of project budgets and forecasts
  • Release Watch-List holds, Subcontractor holds (duplicate or bond), Subcontractor override and Risk List holds

Qualifications & Attributes

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business with strong Accounting experience preferred.
  • Five (5) to eight (8) years of accounting experience
  • Experience with JD Edwards or other comparable ERP solution including analytical tools (BI)
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects from concept to implementation
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including ability to present and speak in public
  • Ability to lead and mentor team members.
  • Ability to influence change, efficiency and morale among team members.
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with others
